Stoian Nedev – Zografa
He was born on May 6 in the village of Draganovo near Veliko Tarnovo.
He graduated from St Cyril and St Methodius University of Veliko Tarnovo with a degree in Mural Painting in 1977.
He worked as a restoration artist for the National Institute for Immovable Cultural Heritage and for the Bishopric of Veliko Tarnovo. He specialized in Church and Icon Painting in the Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church.
He authored 5 independent exhibitions outside Bulgaria.
He was awarded a gold medal at the Fifth East-West Eurointellect International Exhibition, organized by Intellect 2000 Club in the National Palace of Culture in Sofia.
He was nominated at the 2007 Worthy Bulgarians Awards organized by the Bulgarian National Television and 24 Chasa.
Between 1985 and 1990 he worked in the Bishopric of Veliko Tarnovo as restoration artist and icon painter and restored a number of the images of saints in the churches and monasteries in the region.
He has also restored diligently 170 of 230 icons which are displayed permanently in the National Assembly (The Konak) in Veliko Tarnovo.
He has been working as a freelance artist since 1990.

1988: at the club of cultural activists in Veliko Tarnovo
1988: at the Dell Bello Gallery miniature exhibition in Toronto, Canada
1992: he presented authorial work and reproductions in Kobe, Japan; he produced and gave the icon of Saint Nicolas, Bishop of Japan and Founder of the Orthodox Church in Japan, 200×90 cm in size, as a present to the Ascension Church in Hakodate, Hokkaido
1993: he presented his authorial work and reproductions in commemoration of 1100 years of Veliki Preslav; he produced and gave an icon dedicated to St Cyril and St Methodius, their 5 disciples and King Boris as a present to St Peter and St Paul’s Church.
1993: he exhibited 30 authorial icons and reproductions in Tokyo, Japan
1994: he exhibited authorial work and reproductions in Chicago, the USA, during the World Football Cup
2003: he bought a place and painted the chapel of Saint George the Victorious healing spring in Veliko Tarnovo
2007: he painted the three rows of icons of the new Saint George the Victorious church iconostasis in the town of Boichinovtsi near Montana
2009-2010: in cooperation with another artist he painted the Protection of Virgin Mary chapel in the village of Raevtsi near the town of Elena
– he has taken part in autumn exhibitions of the Union of Bulgarian Artists group in Veliko Tarnovo
His authorial works and reproductions are owned by various private collections all over the world: in Bulgaria, France, Spain, Germany, the USA, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden and Norway among others.
